To apply for federal financial aid, you must fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Go to the FAFSA website, where the form is provided with extensive information. There is no charge for submitting this form. The FAFSA is also required by all state and many school student assistance programs. You should apply for financial aid every year, even if you do not think that you qualify. There are numerous factors that affect your eligibility for financial aid. For example, you may not qualify one year, but the next you may be eligible because your sister or brother also enrolls in college. When your family finances change - common in the current ecconomic crisis - you may also become eligible.
