Most students, once they make up their minds to go (back) to college, set their sights on graduating. Their plans typically do not reach beyond that magical date, forcing them to figure out from scratch what to do once they graduate, or default-sliding into a post-graduation job that may not set the stage correctly for their long-term career, for lack of a clear personal vision.
We suggest instead a better, more realistic, meaningful approach: imagine yourself not at graduation, but at graduation + five years!
- What will you be doing?
- How much will you enjoy what you will be doing?
- What will you get paid?
- Will you have paid off your student loans, and if not, how much of a burden will they be?
- Where will go from there?
Once you can answer these questions for yourself - once you have a firm 7-9-year-plan in place - you will have a much easier time picking the right program and school, we assure you!
This longer-term pespective creates the right kind of critical thinking about your future beyond school, and how best to use your education to later maximize the value that you will be able to derive from it.
